Mott MacDonald Group - A tailored training solution case study

The Mott MacDonald Group is a management, engineering and development consultancy serving the public and private sectors world-wide.

Mott MacDonald's business spans 120 countries with over 13,000 staff working in all sectors from transport, energy, buildings, water and the environment to health and education, industry and communications.

The Need

After extensive research, Mott MacDonald’s metros and civil engineering team identified an immediate requirement to train 40 staff in Eurocodes EN1990, EN1991 and EN1992, with the possibility of extending the training to other technical teams within the company.

Mott MacDonald’s preference was for the programme to be delivered by a training provider with proven expertise in Eurocodes and one able to provide high level training to a broad range of staff drawn from a range of civil engineering related disciplines.

The Solution

Thomas Telford Training in partnership with Mott MacDonald produced a ‘tailored’ training solution to suit the specific needs, including a particular request to relate the courses to heavy civil engineering design. A combined one-day EN1990 and EN1991 course formed a ‘gateway’ programme designed to ensure that all delegates had sufficient background knowledge on Eurocodes before attending the material specific EN1992 course on concrete design. There is potential for developing a similar one-day EN1993 course on steel design.

Thomas Telford worked closely with Mott MacDonald to integrate the company’s own ‘best practice’ approach into all the training events. The Mott MacDonald ‘look and feel’ of the programme and Mott MacDonald’s corporate identity were further reinforced through the use of the company’s branding throughout the course materials.

In support of the rollout, Thomas Telford Training provided a comprehensive training administration service.
